The Power of Reading

Today’s assembly was all about the ‘Power of Reading’. I also introduced the children to one of my favourite quotes:
‘Reading is to the mind, what exercise is to the body’.

We also heard some wonderful stories; most notably I had the privilege to read out Arjun’s 500 Word Challenge story that has deservedly made it through to the final 50…. out of over 50,000! This is the very first time we have had one of our pupils get through to the final and he is very much looking forward to a visit to Buckingham Palace to meet the Queen, and if deemed the winner, will bring back 500 books for the school – Go Arjun! Regardless of what happens, making the final is an incredible acheivement and we all congratulated him on a fantastic story.

I also used this as an opportunity to launch my reading challenges to the children – please encourage them all to engage with these as much as possible. Remember, as my letter states, the twist this year is to get involved yourselves mums and dads – You can get a HT award too!
