Special Education Needs & Disability

All children have particular needs at some time. We aim for children to be provided with the teaching and experiences appropriate for those needs.

When it is considered that a child has a specific need for other intervention, our school is able to access to other support agencies. When these agencies are involved, consultation always takes place with the parents first.

There is sufficient flexibility in our curriculum planning for most children to receive an education appropriate to their needs within the framework of their own classes.  However, we do have members of staff designated to help children with special needs and at an early stage we shall advise you if we feel your child requires extra help from school or any other sources.

A special need may be a long-term need or just a temporary difficulty. If a child is not progressing as well as the other members of a class or is an outstandingly high achiever, that child will have some special attention paid to him/her to ascertain what needs to be done to make progress or provide a challenge.

We want each child to make progress to the best of their ability.  Parents can help us by letting us know of anything, changes in family circumstances, prolonged working away from home etc. which may prevent a child from achieving his/her maximum potential.  For more information, please see our Inclusion policy and SEND Information Report.

We also have a statutory duty to share with parents a link to the local offer for West Northants which:

  • provides information for families with children who have a special educational need or disability
  • improves choice and transparency for these families
  • helps professionals to understand the range of local services and provision
  • improves joint commissioning arrangements for services by setting out (in a single place) what is available locally
