School Approach to Mobile Phones & Other Smart Devices

At Nicholas Hawksmoor Primary School, the safety, wellbeing, and focus of our pupils are paramount. We recognise the increasing presence of mobile technology in everyday life and the importance of supporting pupils in learning how to use it responsibly. However, our school maintains a cautious and safeguarding-led approach to the use of mobile phones and similar devices within the school environment.

Pupils are not permitted to bring mobile phones, smart watches, AirTags or other similar devices to school. These devices can pose significant safeguarding risks due to their internet access, location tracking, and ability to record audio, video, or images.

In Year 6, exceptions are considered only where pupils travel to and from school independently. In such cases, and only with parental agreement and Headteacher approval, pupils may bring a mobile phone under strict conditions. Phones must be turned off before entering school grounds, handed in on arrival, and collected after school without being switched on until off-site.

This policy ensures that learning remains undisturbed, privacy is respected, and pupils remain safe—online and offline—at all times. For full details, please refer to our Home-School Mobile Phone Agreement:
