Cluster Cross Country Success!

This morning we took our largest ever KS2 cross-country team to Sponne to participate in the cluster event. In addition there was also a fun-run for any pupils who wished to partake as well. This resulted in 132 of our pupils making the walk up to their playing fields to represent the school alongside the four other local cluster schools.
It began with 4 competitive races between the schools. Y3/4 girls & then the boys and then Y5/6 girls & finally the boys. All the children showed great spirit, grit and determination throughout the event and really raced to their max. We had a particularly strong boys team with our 6 of them finishing in the top 10, and we even had 1st, 2nd & 3rd in that group!
There were so many standout performances, and rather than giving medals to the top ten, they were awarded to some of those runners who had shown great spirit throughout the event – ‘Spirit of the Games’ went to: Abigail, Louie, Bodhi, Primrose and our star performer, Freddie, who was motivated to overtake the ‘hare’ via a sportsmans bet with Mr Driver. As a result, Mr Driver had to participate in the fun run (and is now in need of some physio).
Fair play to him, and also Ms Curtis & Mrs Pickering who joined in the fun-run fun with the children as well. These two gave Freddie a run for his money in terms of competitiveness across the finish line, slightly forgetting that it was not a competitive event in the final straight!
Overall it was a fantastic event, and hopefully a few may be inspired to get into Park Run on Saturday mornings from this. And finally, as I am a little competitive myself, it was lovely to retain the Cluster Cross Country trophy once again thanks to the efforts of the whole team.
Great running NHPS!
