Choose Respect

Assembly this morning focused on Anti Bullying Week which begins next week.
We quickly spotted that the theme this year is one of our school rules, about being respectful. The children were great in explaining what being respectful was like and gave some good examples of how they could choose to be respectful towards others.
As a school, we discussed the definition of respect and also bullying, which is the repetitive and intentional hurting of people both online or in the real world. I pointed out that this does not just happen to children and that as adults we also had a duty to ensure that we made positive choices in the way we interact with others.
We then looked at choices, and recognised that to choose to be unkind was a choice and that it was a much better (and kinder) choice to be respectful – both with friends, and also with others who we may not consider to be our friends.
We ended with reminding that although Anti-Bullying week is next week, this is to designed to remind us of how to behave throughout our lives and it continues with us in to the future.
I look forward to seeing and hearing children choosing respect over the coming weeks and months ahead!
