A Visit to Reception from the Police!

We had an exciting visit from the police today, and the children were full of wonderful questions!
PC Mel and her colleague explained all about the different police vehicles they use, like the police helicopters, motorbikes, cars, and vans. The children were particularly curious about the sirens and walkie-talkies, asking questions like, “Why do you have a siren?” and “Why do you have a walkie-talkie?” PC Mel explained that the sirens help them get to places quickly and that walkie-talkies are important for talking to each other in busy situations.
PC Mel also shared some interesting facts about the animals that help the police, including German Shepherds who are known for their big barks and Cocker Spaniels with their excellent sense of smell. She even told us about the police horses at Buckingham Palace and at football games—because they’re so big, officers can see everything happening around them!
We also got a closer look at the equipment PC Mel uses every day. She showed us her walkie-talkie, torch, body camera, car keys, and handcuffs. The children were amazed by all the tools she carries to help keep everyone safe.
The best part was when we got to explore a real police van! The children climbed in the back, and we even heard the sirens go off, which was very exciting!
A huge thank you to PC Mel and the team for visiting us and answering all our questions. It was a fantastic learning experience for the children!
