A Huge Tag Rugby Festival!
What a fantastic afternoon we have had up at Sponne today!
After a term of tag rugby in PE, we took all our Year 3 and Year 5 pupils over there to participate in a rugby festival alongside Towcester Primary. With the addition of a few Year 4 and Year 6 children, we totalled 137 children representing the school on one afternoon – I think this may be a record!
Our Year 3 and 4 children had a great time learning a few new skills with the wonderful Sponne leaders who taught and encouraged in equal measure. Meanwhile our Year 5 and 6 children were split up into 6 squads, and competed against 5 Towcester Primary teams for the annual Tag Rugby trophy.
It was a fast learning curve for some, but they took it all on board, and thanks to some great coaching in PE & after-school clubs from Mrs Moore, Leigh Churchward and I, we ended up having two teams in the final.
At this point the heavens opened and we played a very soggy last match together. A great day was had by all, and a huge thank you to Mrs Black and her team of Sports Leaders for running a great tournament with so many children.
Now we just need an England win on Saturday night to complete a great week for rugby (although this may be a step too far!) – fingers and toes very much crossed on that one!
