Year 6 crack the code at Bletchley Park

Year 6 children cracking codes on their trip to Bletchley Park, Nicholas Hawksmoor Primary School

Year 6 spent a day at Bletchley Park this week, getting up close to the top secret work that went on there during the Second World War.

The children learnt about the D Day landings, the Enigma Machine and the very different kinds of people who worked on site. Many of them took national security so seriously that they didn’t tell their own families what they had done, even long after the war ended.

Then it was their turn to have a go. The children cracked codes and worked out secret messages of their own, and found out about the different roles that made the whole operation run.

An AI exhibition linked the early computer work at Bletchley to the technology we use today. And at the end of the day, the class even had a dance in the ballroom of the mansion.
