U11 Open District Football Competition ⚽️

Today, 10 Y6 children travelled to Daventry to compete in the district finals

In the group stages, the team gelled brilliantly and improved game upon game.

Our first match was versus West Haddon, where we netted 3 to their 1. Next, we had a THLT derby against Bracken Leas. In true Hawksmoor style, we netted 3 to their 0. What a win! Our final group stage game was against DSLV, and this time we scored 4 and kept a clean sheet!

We then moved into the winners pool where we would face each of the 4 groups’ winning sides. The battle was on for top 3! Our first match was against Deanshanger. We defended very well in the first half and saw off some of their strong chances. We finally converted in the second half and managed to pull a win from the game, with the final score 1-0. In the second game, we played our Caroline Chisholm. After a very close early chance from Alex, sadly CCS scored in the second half to hand us our first loss of the day.

Our final game of the event was versus Brixworth – a team fielding numerous academy players. We scored early, direct from a free kick almost from the half way line! They then equalised before half time. In the second half, they ramped up the pressure and netted 2 more.

Out of the 16 teams at the event, and the 95 schools in the Daventry and South Northants district, we finished a fantastic third place! The whole team should be so proud of themselves and the brilliant sporting values that they showed. Well done all!
