A dinosaur expert visits Reception and Year 1

Reception and Year 1 had a very special visitor recently: a dinosaur fossil expert, who brought the prehistoric world right into school.
The children learnt how fossils form, with bones and other remains slowly preserved in rock over millions of years. They were amazed to find out that fossils aren’t just bones. Horns, teeth, claws, eggs and even dinosaur poo can all be fossilised. Year 1 picked up some brilliant facts too. The T-Rex walked on its toes, and the stegosaurus may have had two brains, one of them near its bottom!
Then it was time to get hands-on. The children became real-life palaeontologists, carefully digging for fossils and using catalogues to work out what they’d uncovered. There was even a chance to stroke a baby dinosaur. Year 1 met Trixie, a six-week-old T-Rex, who very nearly took a bite out of their teacher.
Reception reckon they’ve got some budding dinosaur experts on their hands.
