Ambition and Bravery Assembly

Today, Mr Fulford’s assembly looked at ambition and bravery.
We started with the legend of St. George as yesterday was 23rd April, and explored how the bravery used to face “dragons” could be channeled into our own modern challenges.
We then flew forwards to explore NASA’s recent Artemis mission, discussing their aim to return humans to the surface of the Moon and eventually reach Mars.
We learned that ambition means having dreams that feel impossible—like landing on a rock 240,000 miles away—and having the dedication to make them a reality. We talked about ‘Moonshots’, and thinking creatively and ambitiously to overcome challenges; if it wasn’t for this kind of thinking mankind wouldn’t have walked on the moon all those years ago, or developed driverless cars, or drone deliveries, or video phone calls and many other things we take for granted now.
Pupils learnt that ambition required bravery and patience. All big goals start with a first step and require support along the way, making difficult choices, having resilience, and trusting your team. Big things take time to achieve, but the commitment, dedication and effort given provide a sense of pride for each and every step along the way.
Mr Fulford finished by reminding everyone that having ambition is more than just dreaming it, it is about putting in the effort and determination to take the small steps along the way.
In the words of Neil Armstrong: ‘One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind!’
