What Bluey taught Year 3 about not giving up

Year 3’s first afternoon back started with an episode of Bluey. “Bike”, the one where nothing goes right and everybody keeps trying anyway.

Then came the hard part. The children were handed a pile of materials and asked to build a tower. Some of the materials were straightforward. Others were deliberately awkward. That was rather the point.

Towers went up. Towers came down. Towers went up again, usually taller and with a better plan behind them. Nobody managed a perfect first attempt, and nobody was meant to.

Perseverance is one of those words that’s easy to put on a display board and hard to actually teach. Handing children something that won’t work first time and letting them get on with it does the job far better than talking about it.
