Special Assembly

We had a special guest in assembly as Ms Curtis explored the importance of being curious rather than judgemental. The children were shown images of people from very different backgrounds with different life experiences, some which included: footballer Sadio Mané, scientist Stephen Hawking, and the pioneering mathematicians featured in the movie Hidden Figures.
At first, pupils were asked what they noticed about each person just by looking at the photo. We then revealed the incredible achievements behind each image. This helped us reflect on how first impressions can sometimes be misleading, and how much richer our understanding becomes when we show curiosity about someone’s story instead of making assumptions.
The children thought carefully about how this applies in school and beyond—whether it’s meeting new friends, welcoming visitors, or simply noticing the people around them. By choosing to ask questions, listen and learn, we can discover talents, kindness, and strengths that might not be obvious at first glance.
The assembly reminded everyone that being curious opens doors, while being judgemental can close them. We look forward to seeing pupils put this into action in their classrooms and playgrounds every day.
