Human Rights Day

In our Friday assembly, we spent some time learning about the United Nations and the Declaration of Human Rights on 10th December 1948.

In this document it detailed the rights and freedoms that belong to all people and that nobody should have taken away from them.

Each year, 10th December serves as a reminder, raising awareness of these in the hope that we all respect and protect these rights for everyone.

The children were very astute. Identifying many of the rights that were documented all those years ago, some of which included: the right to be safe; to an education; to be treated fairly; to leave a country if unsafe; to live in peace, be treated with kindness and respect.

We discussed how some of these linked very closely with our school rules and values that we follow here at Nicholas Hawksmoor.

We even discussed the idea of ‘paying it forward’, and how acts of kindness can have such a positive impact on those around us. Linking this with the Christmas experience, we finished by reminding everyone that the act of giving is what Christmas is truly about. I hope this last bit sinks in a little with the children as the countdown to the big day approaches! 🤞🎄
