Understanding Humanism

Today’s assembly focused on understanding a little more about Humanism – an approach to life based on humanity, moral values, human nature and experience, as opposed to a faith-based belief system.

We discovered how the philosophy is built around three important values: asking questions; being kind and finding happiness. All values that also are found within the world’s major religions.

We discussed how the importance of science and gathering evidence was key to this approach to understanding the world, and that empathy was an important factor in helping us deal with tricky situations, arguments and fall-outs.

Treat others as you would like to be treated was a strong theme that ran through the assembly – a positive message that as humans, we all work hard to achieve.
